Camera performance

After a few technical difficulties, we now have the photos taken with the F1200 for review! The F1200 uses a VGA digital camera and has a 2x digital zoom with several special effect functions. Frames and clip-art can be used to brighten up your images and give a little bit of a personal touch! ;)
The camera application can be launched quickly by pressing the menu key and then the number ‘6’ on the numerical keypad. Here, you can capture images straight away using the soft key or the centre navigational key, or by pressing the dedicated camera key.
The VGA camera offers images up to 640 x 480 pixels maximum resolution. With the external 96 x 96 pixel 65,536 colour LCD display, you can take the perfect self portrait by launching the application with the handset closed. The camera is operated solely by using the external dedicated camera key. When you capture an image it is shown on the external LCD for review. You can open the handset and review the picture larger or capture another image in seconds.
With 64mB of internal memory you can capture a heap of images, but unfortunately you cannot capture video clips (at all). Images can then be transferred via infrared to a compatible PC or other device, or to a PC with the included USB data-cable and software.
Special functions on the F1200 are great fun. The best feature is the ability to place frames & overlays on your images before they are captured. As you will see in the image to the right, and the example images below, overlays look a little bit cheesy but hey, isn’t that the point! There are several overlays and frames to choose from. The resolution of the images can also be changed via the options menu. To zoom in (digital) when using the viewfinder press the navigational up or down key to move in or out respectively.
There are three quality settings available on the F1200 – basic, normal, and fine (from lowest to highest quality). The normal setting is fine for MMS messaging, whereas the fine setting is better suited if you’re going to be transferring the images to be viewed on a higher resolution display (such as a PC). The F1200 has problems focusing on close-up objects, as you can see in the example images below. The left and right sides of the images are focused reasonably, but the centre is not. The night mode works to a certain extent but should not be relied on for capturing day-like quality images.
