I’ve mentioned throughout the review that the W550i has many of the same features as the W800i, with only little differences. I raised the question at the start of the article – what’s changed? Well, the answer is, not a lot. In terms of features, the W550i has almost everything the W800i has – but in some ways it has been ‘downgraded’ as such: take a look at the 1.3mpx camera from the 2mpx in the W800i, and the lack of external memory card support.

The form factor is another feature that has changed, and some small features like an RSS reader on the W550i. Other than that, not a lot has changed and the inside is still very much the same.

In terms of price, as funny as it may seem, the W550i is a lot cheaper than the W800i. You can find the W550i for around $500 and cheaper, where as the W800i is still coming in at about $700+. If you’re really after a Walkman™ phone, I’d definitely go for the W550i over the W800i in terms of price. In terms of features, the 2mpx camera on the W800i is amazing and it’s a lot less bulky than the W550i.

I do however recommend the W550i highly – Sony Ericsson have done well with their latest products and for the aimed user market (the younger generation) the handset is a definite stand-out. Some people may find that the Walkman™ branding is a little too much… but many people I showed the review unit to thought that it looked really cool!
