LCD screen lacks colour depth
As mentioned previously, it was disappointing to find that Sony Ericsson didn’t upgrade the screen on this so-called “new” model. Looking at other entry-level models in the market that comes with a colour screen, virtually none of them feature a 256-colour screen at all - with those having 4096-colour displays instead.
Similar to the release of the T68i, I believe a richer colour screen should have been included on this. Theoretically, the upgrade from the Ericsson-branded T68m to the T68i is similar to this situation - the different looks - plus some small new features that could have been obtained by the T68m owner through a software upgrade anyway.
Okay… maybe at that time, colour screen technology on mobile phones wasn’t as mature as it is now - but then, I cannot excuse the fact that they are still using a 256-colour screen for a newly-released model, which I feel is somewhat unacceptable.
And with the ability to attach the CommuniCam attachment onto the T310, it just ruins the experience when you try and view pictures taken with the shoddy 256-colour screen. Basically, if you have not experienced a True Colour (32-bit) image on such a screen before, the experience is nowhere near realistic or pleasing - and sending it to a PC with the proper display requirements is the best way of experiencing what such a mobile camera attachment can really do.
Maybe Sony Ericsson should’ve stayed with the T300 if they were just going to whack on a new cover design and keep everything on the inside of the phone being almost the same!
Screen saver does not display missed calls or awaiting messages
This is a common issue, which I personally consider as a “problem”, shared amongst all Sony Ericsson colour screen models. When you get a missed call or awaiting message on your phone, you may not realise this fact because the phone’s digital clock screen saver feature remains activated irrespective of this.
For most other phones, when there is a notification message on the screen, it’s either that the same notification is left on the screen (where the screen saver feature is disabled) until its user clears it, or the actual screen saver itself includes the appropriate notifications instead.
Personally, I would prefer to be able to know whether there were any missed calls or waiting messages by simply glancing at my phone’s screen, instead of having to press a button and interact with the phone before I learn of this. On the non-colour Ericsson and Sony Ericsson models, this was never a problem - it’s only the colour ones that are a problem. However, you don’t see other brands of phones doing the same silly thing… so “go figure” eh?!
