Take a closer look!

Samsung GPRS Watchphone

11 April 2003
Written by Kinny Cheng

For those who’ve seen the concept version of the watch phone by Samsung and wished that you could own one, the good news is that the Korean manufacturer has finally decided on releasing one by the end of this year! :)

There’s no model number, but just called the GPRS Watchphone. Obviously, it will feature the high-speed GPRS data connectivity feature - supporting up to Class 10 speeds. A 256-colour OLED screen will be used for the watch face display, which should be quite sufficient for display basic information - and since it does not support MMS, it doesn’t really matter ‘that’ much.

Other great features include 40-tone polyphonic ringing tones, handsfree speakerphone support, a built-in WAP browser, and Bluetooth - which I think is a fantastic and vita feature to make this watch-based phone that much more practical (imagine having to hold the phone against your ear during conversations!)

The slim, 400mAh lithium-ion battery on the GPRS Watchphone will support up to 90 minutes talk time and 80 hours standby.

Samsung expects to release the GPRS Watchphone onto the market during the fourth quarter of 2003.
